Lobby at One Vanderbilt I

Some experimental scenes I captured in the lobby of One Vanderbilt building in midtown Manhattan. I wanted to focus on the business attire details of people of the area, framed against the metallic sculpture by artist Tony Cragg.

Evening on the ferry

Evening light captured on New York City’s iconic Staten Island Ferry and Whitehall terminal.

What attracts me the most about composing under these lighting conditions in busy locations like this is that most details are stripped away and we are only left with silhouettes and highlights of the subjects to work with, forcing us to focus more on strong framing and eliminating any distracting details we might have included in our compositions under other lighting conditions.

Here I mostly chose to shoot with a 100mm telephoto lens to accentuate the compression of space around the subjects the and environment.
